Scandi is a typeface derived from an antique Krumkake Iron found in an antique store in Anderson, South Carolina. The whimsical and intricate carvings of the letters were done with care and intentionality that I felt should be applied to a digital application. Drawing inspiration from the letterforms in "Scandinavian" displayed on the iron, I crafted an alphabet that captured the whim of the original typography whilst being legible and usable for display utilization.
Along with the main typeface, I also created four alternate versions for maximum usability; for example, Scandi Slim utilizes the less curvature forms in its letters while in contrast Scandi Funk utilized specifically the curvature forms. An outline and italicized version of the main typeface was created in a supporting role as well.
Scandi stands as an unique display typeface that utilizes the personality and whim of the Scandinavian culture while bringing it into the modern era with alternate forms to fulfill digital needs.
